Valentina Tereshkova

Why do we need a country ruled by us, women? A lot of reasons all along history teach us that is the best solution.

Miss Valentina Tereshkova (Yaroslavl Oblast, 1937)

The first woman in space was Soviet; in 1963, aboard the Vostok 6 mission, she orbited the Earth 48 times over the course of three days. At that time, she became a true role model for all of us, women across the globe. The second female astronaut was also Soviet: Svetlana Savitskaya, in 1982.

NASA did not send the first woman into space until 20 years after Valentina Tereshkova’s feat, in 1983, with the American astronaut Sally Ride.

This fact leads us to the conclusion that the Soviet Union was much more responsive to the issue of women’s liberation than the United States.

On the other hand, according to recent studies, long-duration space missions should be crewed exclusively by women. For example, the crew sent to Mars should be entirely female, because the female body is more efficient than the male one. In other words: we, women, are capable of functioning on an equal footing with men, yet while consuming fewer resources, less food and water.
